Insomnium’s “Down with the Sun” is one of my all-time favorite songs, and I love to scream along with it. So why not go for a vocal cover? It took some time (practice, recording, mixing, video, bla bla bla), but it’s finally up on YouTube. Thank you Hypetreme for letting me use your full cover video as a backing track – super-appreciated!
I’m not going to talk to much about “Down with the Sun”, but it really is one of those songs I can listen to for all eternity. I don’t grow bored it with, and it doesn’t lose its atmosphere or catchiness. Good job, Insomnium, I guess! Oh, and the lyrics are original and fabulous, too!
“Down with the Sun” video
Here’s my video for “Down with the Sun”! Thank you so much to Gustav Gunnarsson for lending me his video camera, video skills and patience. And thank you Ollie Assault for the audio mix!
“Down with the Sun” lyrics
O darkness, if in thy arms
I could rest for a while
And with these earthly eyes
See thy dim smile
Maid of twilight, lass of duskfall
Hang the moon on the sky’s arch
Soothe the weight of a darkling day
Croon me into the slumber
Rock here in the birch’s lap
Swing in the manor of wind
Lay down your weary head
Let the blue stars darken
Rock here in the birch’s lap
Swing in the manor of wind
Lay down your weary head
Let the blue stars darken
O silence, if in thy cradle
I could sway like a child
And hear the amending song
The sighing of the shades
Maid of twilight, lass of duskfall
Serve thy goblet to me
Let me drink to the last drop
The sweet opiate of the dreams
Rock here in the birch’s lap
Swing in the manor of wind
Lay down your weary head
Let the blue stars darken
Rock here in the birch’s lap
Swing in the manor of wind
Lay down your weary head
Let the blue stars darken
Ours is the silence
The echo old ageless night
A gleam in the blackest of streams
One fleeing moment
For vain is all the toil and trouble
Vain is all the heartbreak
In the end I’ll find my solace
In an earthen cradle
So good night
Don’t miss out on my original music!
Insomnium covers on YouTube is not all I do musically. My progressive death/doom band Soliloquium is quite influenced by them though. So check out the album “Soulsearching” (2022), you might like it!
